Working under the direction of a Senior Engineer, our Client is seeking a Design Engineer (HVAC) for our Alpharetta, GA office. The successful candidate will prepare engineering design concepts for HVAC building systems for moderately complex assignments.  Project types include: Corporate, Academic, Science & Technology, Industrial, Mission Critical Civic & Entertainment, Healthcare, Historic Preservation & Adaptive Reuse and Mixed Use.

The Design Engineer will utilize technical skills in CAD and BIM software daily to create precise HVAC system layouts and documentation. Analytical skills are essential for performing load calculations and evaluating system performance to ensure designs meet client needs and regulatory requirements. Strong communication and collaboration skills enable effective coordination with architects, contractors, and other engineers to resolve design challenges and integrate systems seamlessly. Problem-solving abilities are applied when addressing site-specific constraints and adapting designs to evolving project conditions. Additionally, staying informed about industry standards and emerging technologies allows the engineer to incorporate innovative, energy-efficient solutions that enhance overall project value.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in HVAC system design within commercial or industrial building projects.
  • Proficiency in HVAC design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar tools.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC codes, standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA), and energy efficiency principles.
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical concepts
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and engineering drawings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or HVAC specialization.
  • 5 years of experience in HVAC system design with data centers
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  • Experience with energy modeling software and sustainable design certifications (e.g., LEED).
  • Familiarity with building automation systems and controls integration.
  • Previous experience working in a multidisciplinary engineering consulting environment.
  • Excellent project management skills and experience leading design teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed HVAC system designs including ductwork, piping, and equipment layouts using CAD and other design software.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations to determine system requirements and ensure compliance with energy codes and standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams including architects, structural engineers, and contractors to coordinate design integration and resolve technical issues.
  • Prepare technical specifications, cost estimates, and project documentation to support procurement and construction phases.
  • Review and approve shop drawings, submittals, and change orders to maintain design integrity throughout project execution.
  • Conduct site visits to assess installation progress and provide technical guidance to ensure adherence to design intent and quality standards.
  • Stay updated on HVAC industry developments, codes, and best practices to incorporate innovative and sustainable solutions.
