The Director of Engineering is a leadership role based in Charlotte, North Carolina, responsible for overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of systems within the organization. This position requires a seasoned engineering professional with ideally 8+ years of relevant experience. The role involves strategic planning, team management, and ensuring that engineering projects meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards. The Director will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation, optimize processes, and deliver high-performance solutions.


Key Responsibilities:


Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers and technicians specializing in engineering.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, encouraging professional development and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies, goals, and objectives aligned with organizational vision.

Project Management:

  • Oversee all engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and budget.
  • Coordinate with project managers and stakeholders to define project requirements, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and budgeting.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between project teams, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Utilize project management software and tools to track project performance and generate reports for senior management.

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide technical leadership in the design and development of systems, ensuring adherence to best practices and industry standards.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in engineering and incorporate relevant innovations into the team's work.
  • Conduct technical reviews and audits to ensure the highest level of quality and compliance.
  • Assist with production of design plans, reports, and documents as needed based on team structure and business needs.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with other departments such surveying, construction management, and business development to ensure seamless integration of engineering solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, providing regular updates on project status, challenges, and successes.
  • Represent the engineering team in meetings and presentations, advocating for necessary resources and support.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and company policies.
  • Promote a culture of safety and quality within the engineering team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification is required.
  • Over 8 years of experience in engineering, with a sizable portion in a leadership role.
  • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proven history of managing complex engineering projects and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong technical background in civil engineering or related fields.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to different project sites.
  • Ability to perform physical activities such as bending, twisting, squatting, lifting, and moving objects of up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Adherence to Illinois Department of Labor regulations and federal employment laws, including non-discrimination policies.
