Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer to join our team. This role is critical for ensuring that all electrical systems within new and existing buildings are installed, tested, and operate according to design specifications, safety standards, and the owner's project requirements. The successful candidate will be a technical expert in power distribution, life safety, and control systems, working collaboratively with design teams, contractors, and owners throughout the entire project lifecycle. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Commissioning Plan Development: Develop and implement comprehensive commissioning plans, checklists, and test procedures specifically for electrical systems in compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA 70E).
  • Design & Submittal Review: Conduct thorough reviews of electrical design drawings, specifications, and shop drawings (submittals) to ensure compliance with project requirements, codes, and commissioning best practices.
  • Site Inspections & QA/QC: Perform on-site inspections and quality assurance checks of electrical installations, including power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, grounding, emergency power systems (generators, UPS, ATS), fire alarm, and security systems.
  • System Testing & Troubleshooting: Lead and witness the static and dynamic functional performance testing (FPT) of electrical equipment and integrated systems to verify proper operation and performance.
  • Issue Resolution: Identify, document, and track deficiencies (punch list items) and non-conformance issues, coordinating with the project team and contractors to ensure timely corrective actions and retesting.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including daily reports, test results, deficiency logs, meeting minutes, and final commissioning reports.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise and collaborate effectively with clients, architects, mechanical and plumbing engineers, contractors, vendors, and facility operations staff to ensure seamless integration of MEP systems and successful project turnover.
  • Training & Handover Support: Provide training and support to facility operations and maintenance staff on the proper operation and maintenance of the commissioned electrical systems.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of experience and education).
  • Experience: [Insert number] years of experience in electrical systems engineering, design, or construction, with a minimum of [Insert number] years in a dedicated commissioning role.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of electrical theory, power distribution systems, control systems (BMS/BAS integration), and life safety systems.
  • Codes & Standards: In-depth knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA, ASHRAE commissioning guidelines, and local building codes.
  • Certifications (Preferred): Commissioning certification such as Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA), Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), or Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, strong attention to detail, effective communication (written and verbal), and strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to conduct site visits which may involve climbing ladders, walking on uneven terrain, and lifting up to 30-50 pounds.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
