Position Overview

The Engineer plays a central role in delivering technical solutions that support the company’s land development projects across all phases of the customer journey. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is responsible for producing high-quality engineering designs, managing internal schedules, coordinating directly with external agencies, and guiding junior design staff under the strategic leadership of department management.

This role requires a balance of technical proficiency, ownership of assigned tasks, and proactive coordination with Project Management, Permitting, and city reviewers to ensure clear, complete, and timely project execution.

Responsibilities Overview

● Contribute visual assets, exhibits, or technical content to support Marketing requests or client case studies.

● Ensure technical drafts and visuals provided are aligned with current standards and accurately reflect deliverable expectations.

● Assist in reviewing project portfolios or recent work to support proposal development.

● Participate in early-stage client meetings alongside Project Managers to provide technical insight and feasibility guidance.

● Conduct site research, zoning code checks, and gather relevant technical standards to support feasibility and scoping discussions.

● Review and provide input on scope documents, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with jurisdictional requirements.

● Prepare conceptual exhibits, preliminary calculations, and design input to support client understanding and decision-making. 1

● Support internal setup of new projects by reviewing scoping documents and

preparing base drawings or standard exhibits.

● Assist in preparing materials for pre-application meetings with local jurisdictions,

clients, or other stakeholders.

● Confirm that draft designs meet project assumptions and align with jurisdictional

submittal expectations.

● Finalize engineering design plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D and ensure they meet

project scope, timeline, and quality expectations.

● Own the coordination and execution of engineering deliverables, applying expertise

in grading, drainage, utilities, and other civil systems with minimal oversight.

● Serve as a technical resource during client meetings to explain engineering

decisions, answer questions, and reinforce project alignment.

● Lead coordination of engineering inputs across departments, including Survey,

Project Management, and Permitting, to ensure cohesive delivery.

● Review and incorporate design redlines, QA/QC feedback, and jurisdictional

comments into final engineering documentation.

● Ensure all design changes are communicated to relevant team members and

integrated accurately and efficiently.

● Time is of the Essence. Ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner and provide

feedback on any time constraints.

● Track project milestones and maintain responsibility for meeting internal deadlines

and external delivery commitments.

● Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to escalate risks, suggest technical

solutions, and maintain clear visibility into project progress and challenges.

● Identifies hour limitations from Resourcing, manages their own WIP creation and

personal billing efficiency, and communicates deviations from standard metrics

proactively with their manager.

● Provide continuous process improvements in all design, forms, and systems.

● Value conscientious design focuses on Client first to balance needs of the project

with cost of construction implications.

● Assist with preparation of closeout packages, including final deliverables and

as-builts.

● Review of as-built documents for code inconsistencies and identify all deficiencies of

construction from engineering standards or requirements to the team before review

by any jurisdictional parties.

● Respond to RFIs and support post-delivery tasks under supervision.

● Document design responses and provide context for comment resolution.

● Participate in internal review debriefs and share insights for continuous improvement.

Technical Skills

Demonstrates 50%+ mastery in:

● Working proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, PONDS, and HydraFlow

● Competency in site layout, storm drainage, grading, utilities, lighting, and erosion control

● Ability to interpret jurisdictional codes and design standards with supervision

● Organized documentation of design calculations and decisions

Qualifications

Education

● B.S. in Civil Engineering (preferred)

● GSWCC Level II Certification or willingness to obtain

● Willingness to complete a technical assessment

Experience

● AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency required

● 3–8 years of civil design or equivalent experience
