The duties and responsibilities of a Mechanical Discipline Lead include but are not limited to:
Staffing
• Interviews and hires for all mechanical design employees
• Responsible for training mechanical design employees and assistance with technical questions and guidance
• Monitors progress of projects, confers with project managers, and oversee all aspects of engineering design, specific to the plumbing discipline within designated projects.
• Provide performance feedback for staff reviews including assistance with disciplinary action as necessary.
Technical Design
• Ability to design a variety of basic to very complex mechanical systems including temperature controls using AutoCAD and Revit.
• Perform review of types of calculations required to design systems, including sizing of equipment and selecting appropriate mechanical equipment.
• Conduct field surveys to determine existing project conditions
• Have the ability to meet fast-paced deadlines while maintaining quality design.
• Reviews the development of designs for compliance with applicable codes, adopted engineering standards, and good engineering practices.
• Cross-discipline coordination of MEPT components within Revit and AutoCAD
• Facilitate production of construction documents (drawing and specifications) for new buildings, renovations, and additions to existing facilities.
• Communicating effectively with clients and internal team members in the design and specification development of plumbing building systems.
• Building and maintaining positive client relationships.
• Ability to write and edit design specifications
• Conduct construction site visits to ensure systems are installed per drawings and specifications
• Respond to contractor RFIs and review project shop drawings/submittals
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field
• Mechanical design experience within the building design sector
• Revit Proficiency and Autocad Proficiency
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Maintain or able to obtain Professional Engineer License
• Project management experience
• Graduate degree in engineering, architecture or related field of study
