The Survey Technician supports field and office survey operations for a variety of civil engineering and land development projects. This role involves collecting, processing, and analyzing survey data to support design, construction, and boundary determinations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, familiar with modern surveying instruments and software, and capable of working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist field crews with data collection for boundary, topographic, ALTA, and construction layout surveys.
- Operate and maintain surveying instruments including GPS receivers, total stations, and data collectors.
- Perform data reduction, coordinate geometry (COGO) computations, and surface modeling using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.
- Process raw field data and prepare base maps, contours, and digital terrain models.
- Support project engineers and land surveyors with drafting survey plans, plats, and exhibits.
- Conduct deed research and compile record information to assist with boundary resolution.
- Ensure all survey work adheres to company standards, client requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Maintain organized field notes, data files, and project documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers, planners, and construction teams to provide accurate and timely survey information.
- Follow safety protocols and assist in maintaining field equipment inventory and calibration.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or technical certificate in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–3 years of experience in land surveying or civil engineering support preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, or similar software.
- Working knowledge of GPS, total station, and data collection equipment.
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and survey drawings.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with UAV/drone data collection and point cloud processing.
- Familiarity with local and state survey standards.
- Interest in pursuing professional licensure (PLS or SIT).
